substrate suggestions

im going to be getting a new tank shortly for some cichlids what kind of substrate do you suggest i always used the pebbles but wondering if sand is better

Pool filter sand all the way!

I used this fine white commercial sand from home depot. Its a few bucks more but its 100lb bags. Its quick to wash, its pretty heavy even though it looks fine. My cichlids love digging in it and i wont go back to pool filter sand. Not that its bad, i just prefer and like the commercial sand

k thanx always wanted to try sand. how do you clean it though because wont a gravel vac suck it all up

All of the waste stays on top of the sand, so you just need to place your vacuum slightly above the waste.

I love sand and will never go back to a gravel substrate. I do add pebbles and crushed coral.

There are some great choices either way you go. 2 things to be careful of is gases building up in the sand and it getting in your filter(s).
