Howdy!!
My motoro ray is being moved into a bigger and nicer home!! So the question I have is which is th best form of substrate/sand for her? At the minute she is on coral sand which isn't the best looking or best for her so I was wondering whether the fine White marine sand would be ok?
Many thanks

I just use Super Naturals Aquarium sand. its a fine grade and comes in all colors. My rays seem to like it..

Thank u very much for doing some extra research I appreciate it!! If the avatar is anything to go by u are using black sand?? How's that going as I'm interested in White sand!

Don't use marine sand originally from coral/shell. This fine sand is sharp and it will damage the ray. It will also raise hardness/ph.

I like the black sand.. It seems to work well. I am setting up another tank and going to use white this time, but only because I am going to get some Black Diamond rays and would be hard to see them in black sand.
Crushed coral sand will damage the rays. It scratches them. I use the sand I told you about due to its real sand, not crushed coral and it packs good in the tank so that no food or stuff get stuck in the sand. and stuff I ever need to clean sits rt on top and easy to clean. I even use sand in my community fish tanks due to its easier to keep clean.
Im sure the white sand from the same company is good. I have used the same sand for years and have had no problems with it at all. Rays love it, easy to hide in if they want to and it doesnt scratch them up at all..

I attached two pictures for you.
first shows you how fine the sand is on the ray...
Second is my male ray floating around. believe it or not, rt under him to the right a little, my female is under the sand.. the sand is fine enough that if they want to totally hide, they can and still be able to stick there eyes and intake water gills out and you hardly see them....

rest of the pic's are ones I just like and thought I would add
