Hello, just a quick question. im going to save up and buy a fluval fx5 but my current set-up of filters are not picking up most of the waste on the floor, so i was wondering... Substrate or no substrate? im running a fluval 205, fluval 4plus and eheim 2013 on a 100g 5ft tank (i know its not enough) with 1 Oscar 2 plecos and 1 blue acara.

Thanks

Your filter won't pick up all the waste, hell I had a magnum 350 and a emperor400 on a barebottom 50g with a medium arowana and there was still crap onthe bottom. Does having no substrate help the filter pickup crap from the floor? Not really. Does it make cleaning easier? Yes it does. All I have to do is vac/net all the crap out the tank, which is easy in my case since the poo all collect in one spot. The final decision is up to u though I thought I would share my 2cent. But get the fx5, this everyone will agree on.

Oh so very true... unless you have some kind of reverse undergravel filter in conjunction with a canister you're doom like the rest of us; suck on that hose and love it :P

PS: i use sand, its kinda like having a bare-bottom, easy to clean since all the detritus sits on top, takes a little practice though; and i have a 30" tall, it gets tricky at times ^^

If you have a bare bottom tank you can probably use a power jet pointed down at the bottom to keep the poo from collecting down there.

What jet could i use to move all the poo?
