i want to change my substrate..so i need to know is my tank going to need to "cycle" again? what can i do to save some of the good bacteria from old substrate?

your tank probably won't have to cycle again if you have adequate bio-media in your filters.
if you're worried about it you could probably buy a bottle of the Tetra safe start or whatever it's called with the bio-spira in it and pour that in after you add your new substrate.

You could try a good gravel vacuuming and dumping the gunk back in the tank if you were really worried about it.
