So what's every one using for substrate for there rays? I'm getting a ray with in the next couple of months, iv done a he'll of a lot of research on these guys but nothing has ever said what kind of substrate to use, it just says sand. I have coral sand in my tank bit I'm scared that it will be too sharp for a ray so I'm thinking of going for a softer grain. What's everyone's thoughts on this. Pictures of your tank would be great

I used fine gravel that I collected from a local river. If you buy sand, go with one that is not coated with anything.
Is your coral sand that kind (aragonite based) used for marine aquariums? If so, it will alter your water chemistry.

Playsand. Cheap, looks good, grows plants, but blows around too easily. I don't recommend it.

Don't know any cons. Pros: it doesn't stir up, detritus doesn't mix w it (settles on top), and it doesn't affect ph. Cost effective also.
