I'm going to be setting up a small saltwater tank, the ph from my tap is about 6.8-7. i was wondering if crushed coral would be a good choice to buffer my ph? i've read that it can cause nitrate problems. I can't use live sand because of the aquariums built in filtration system. If i use the marine salt with all the trace elements/minerals will this bump up the ph? I'm a bit concerned about water changes because if i get the ph stable in the aquarium and the water's ph is lower....

also does anyone have any suggestions on other substrates i could use, that is a large size ( won't get stuck in the filter?)

if anyone could give any suggestions/advice it would be greatly appreciated :)
