I have driftwood in virtually every aquarium and other enclosure I maintain...and only one piece was ever purchased, by someone else who gifted it to me...so, yeah, I think I'm successful at collecting it. I virtually never go out looking specifically for it, but I always have with me in my truck the stuff I need to retrieve driftwood. This means gear like ropes, a saw and axe, shovel, pre-bar, rubber boots, gloves, etc.

When I moved from Ontario to Manitoba more than 10 years ago, I had to abandon and leave behind many, many items that had been accumulated over the years. This included all my fish, virtually all my aquariums, and a large assortment of driftwood and assorted boulders that I had amassed over several decades of monomaniacal collecting. My wife was ecstatic...

I forgot to delete “have”, I go to a military base to collect my driftwood because I have family in the military that lets me get onto base to collect a truck bed at a time for free if I wanted to.
