Finally got my pair to spawn again, and got eggs lastnight ^.^

Just thought i'd like to share
I'm hoping i'll get some fry with her intense red and his pearls.

I don't know most people say that fish look their best in their breeding colors, but my male gets stripes and loses red. If people remember my last thread of him, i think he looks much nicer not in breeding dress.

I was thinking about taking the eggs, because they have a lot of hungry and sneaky takemates, But is it detrimental to the eggs if the water in the growout has a higher PH than the one in my community tank?

My community tank has a PH 7.1 but the growout has a PH 7.7, I established the growout 2 weeks ago, i filled it halfway with water from the community and then half new water, it currently has a 2.5incher whose been living there for nearly the whole time. So the water is good, but are eggs more sensitive to changes in conditions??

I would divide the pair off then move the fry after they hatch or right before. Sweet pair by the way!! Good Luck and keep us updated

Thanks for the comments and feedback all, I hope everything turns out well, eggs are all good atm, havn't really seen many white ones, so I think most are fertile.

The only thing is, they are in my community tank so number one I actually don't have a divider big enough to cut them off from the other fish, and then another problem i've had with leaving the eggs to hatch, (with the exception of my original male), these two have never raised fry in the community tank to free swimming. I see the parents collect the wrigglers and move them to a pit at the back of the tank, then I never see them again. My guess is they get picked off during the night.

But thanks for the advice, I have a 55g spare, but I love these fish hence I keep them in my display tank, once I attempted to breed them in there divided and everything, but they never laid eggs, well once but the male didn't fertilise them.

Also Cam, what do golden Monkeys look like?

I'm not sure what either are, lfs here aren't knowledgeable when it comes to strains, etc. etc.

But yeah, disappointed... Eggs turned white, guess my boy didn't do his thing properly. sigghh. I'm considering moving them to their own 55g without the other fish to bother them. I was really looking forward to this batch.

aww man that sucks. GL i hope they spawn again.
