I asked the following question in another forum "Can I mix a male Albino Ruby Red with a regular Ruby Red in my all-male tank since they look different?"

The response was "Albino's don't last long in show tanks or even worse all male show tanks." The person went on with some of his personal experiences on this.

Is this true? Have any of you experienced this?

My stock is one of each: Cobue, Ruby Red, Benga, Litho Z-Rock, Ngara Flamtail, and a newly added albino Ruby Red. Oh, and 6 Yellow Labs.

ive lost 2 albino eureka reds in my all male tank. one was picked on by everyone and the other was singled out by a 2 inch acei, both peacocks were around 4 inches. i have thought of the idea of an all male all albino tank, but probably wont ever do it.

I had my Benga get in the Albino's face every once in a while yesterday (1st day), but everything looks fine today. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I've had repeated bad luck with albino peacock males in community/all male tanks.

I think that it has something to do with their bright coloration - they're easier for a fish to track when following. Also, I'm not 100% certain, but believe that the lack of pigment in their eyes may impact their vision. (It sounds reasonable though) :)

So far, everything is going great! The albino RR is left alone, however, there aren't any fully matured fish in the tank. It's something that I'll definitely keep my eye on. Hopefully, it works out since he looks great.

I remember when one store first got the albino D.compressiceps and they were pretty expensive for their size....For some reason that is the only albino fish that appeals to me.

Quick update:

The albino Ruby Red is doing great. No one messes with him.

My Flametail, however, will give short chases towards my Cobue and regular Ruby Red anytime they get near him. No nipped fins or anything, just a quick "get away from me".
