Well going on 6 months now i have sucessfully kept my 6" fahaka with my 10-11" fire eel. At first the fahaka nipped his fins but its been good since the fire eel stood his ground and tried to wrap up the puffer. Tank has a pvc pipe for eel and fee pieces of driftwood. Now the both beg for food side by side.20161201_201916.jpg 20161201_201916.jpg 20161229_190548.jpg

Its just a matter of time honestly before the fire eel will start getting nipped again imho... but eitherway, as long as you give each fish enough space and hiding places to call their own, it should minimize damage done...

like the idea of the pvc, I think a 2ft long piece that the could completely hide in would be good just incase. I was interested when I saw this because just today I was thinking about the same situation.

All is still well. The fire eel does not appriciate when the puffer steals his food though

are you thinking about putting any other fish in the tank, I wonder if you could get away with another fire eel (or two) some fast cichlids, or a rope fish?

Awesome!! I have a baby Fahaka growing up in my African Cichlid community tank at the moment, would love to have this living situation when the Fahaka gets bigger.

Fahaka's love African cichlids. I've heard it's one of their favorite foods right after crustaceans. Not the same situation as a fire eel. If you got a 500+ gallon set up and you feed your puffer like a pig he might not care enough about murdering your live fish to put much action into the thought.

Fahaka is still smaller than all cichlids he is with, so its worked fine for the past four months. Once I move the tanks are getting upgraded so I'm sure Fahaka will explode and will need to be isolated.
