Google turns up nothing but MFK is a better place to ask. Searched here, too and nothing. Does this defect exist in plecos? Perhaps in the heavily inbred ancistrus?

Nail on the head: ancistrus short bodies? Yes. We have a line here in B.C. that has been extensively traded between club members and I noticed that about 12% of my last spawn went somewhat "nano" on me. Time to outcross!
Perfectly fine otherwise; they still have pleasing conformation but I wouldn't breed them. I kept one only for my nano tank and the rest go to daycare or school/library tanks.

This was my thought as some have big heads
except... when you see those really disproportionate ones in person... they're truly massive lol.
