Is it true big sized tigrinus cats commonly have a case of sudden death syndrome? I only know that overfeeding them is what causes them to die suddenly but dying suddenly without any explanation? My tigrinus is about 22” he’s around 2yrs and 3mos now. How long do they usually live for? Thanks!

I have seen a lot of reports of feeding frozen sea food being the cause that they don't last long
Out of 12 I've kept, I think I've lost 2 to unknown reasons at 18" or so and 2-3 years of age. Fine one day, dead the next. Two were killed. The remaining 8 are ok today, 22"-28", 4-5 yo.
On the crustaceans in the feed - there are two camps. One swears it killed their tigs, the other says "we feed ours crustaceans and ours are fine". Roughly 50%-50%.
I ain't taking chances. I am NOT feeding crustaceans to our tigs.

NLS pellet and thawed fish (marine bait) soaked in VitaChem. Some feed on both, some on one or the other. Been like that since 2"-3".
Thank you for the reply! I just hope mine doesnt die for some unknown reason. I feed mine herring and anchovies every couple of days. I dont feed that much as well just a few pcs and thats it
I'd be afraid your tig is not getting a balanced nutrition with just that diet. You'd do great by your tig to presoak the feed in VitaChem.
My old tig that passed away over a year ago was 13 yrs+ old. It ate only cut fish and the occasional pellet. One day i found him dead. He was just shy of 30".
