I just walked into my living room and found one of my 7-8 inch clown loaches on his side breathing really heavily... hes not moving and it looks like hes gonna die...

doesnt make any sense... he was eating fine hes totally healthy. water params are top notch... i just dont get it...

total bummer

what are your water parameters?

yea I agree, oxygen problem? hows your other fish acting? have they always been in that tank set up? any new adds to the tank? hmmm seems strange if its only them

I always keep a good current in my Loach tanks, and a big airstone - as much water/surface agitation as possible - and my Loaches seem to do fine. Heavy breathing can come from stress as well as oxygen deficiency. Anything stressing your Clown?

o i thought nobody was replying to this...
umm yea update... he seems better than before... at first he was just laying totally still on the bottom breathing heavily. now he swims and then sits and falls over and breaths heavily... then swims some more... and just repeats...

Ive had them for a bout 3-4 weeks now and theyve been fine. my oxygen levels r HIGH, i mean im keeping a sturgeon alive at 26 degress celcius...

none of the others r breathing heavily... they all seem fine...

i did add a new fish about a week ago, but he came out of top notch water conditions (stiffmeisters tank) so i dont think he wud have been bringin anything nasty with him...

only thing i can think of is he ate something he cudnt handle or hes been picked on...

i never see anything picking on the loaches so i dont think thats it... i think its food... cuz it seemed to start about 1-2 hours after feeding

i fed fish pellets, sturgeon pellets, algae wafers, smelt, and pangasius filet...

im thinking maybe he tried to tackle some pangasius filet which has some strong fat rinds that he cudnt handle.

Neway i hope he makes it... hes the weirdest lookin loach i have!

and if not then ill hate myself for a while and post him up on the dead fish thread...

he didnt make it :(

Had you added anything to your tank such as melafix or coppersafe?
