Hey everybody,

The otherday my brother took in a sugar glider from my cousin's work friend. It was $100 for the sugar glider and cage. Her name is Sweet Cheeks and she is 2 years old....

Well questions begin:

We purchased a much larger cage for her yesterday as she was in a filty house shape bird cage...probably a 12inches by 10 inches by 18 inches(House shape so it lost width as it got higher)...she looked miserable. Her cage now is a 28 x 18 x 31 (LxWxH). I just wanted to ask since my brother doesnt have an account on mfk, if you guys can post pictures of your cages. This will help us provide better living conditions this cage was intended for rats so thier are large steps and such...I figured more room could be given with sugarglider sized objects. Any sites where we can order sugar glider items? And tips will be appreciated, we have read this diet off of a site called BML diet which we will make today as well as purchase grubs like meal worms.

Thanks A Million, and please don't flame...my brother seemed to have done his research and I did repeatedly tell him not to purchase her since I believed it would be too difficult...however after seeing the conditions she was in...my brother will do anything to make her feel more comfortable.

Some general ideas I have for the cage:

-New Hammock
-Branches instead of parakket perches as what was provided by the owner...(however any sites where I can purchase branches also what should thickness be)
-Wheel as it used one however it is in bad shape and needs to be changed
-Food/water bowl will be kept high as I figure they prefer being high up
-Wooden toys to much on (any ideas where to purchase)

-Also i read somewhere that sugar gliders should be kept solitary should have a companion...however this one has been alone for 2 years will thier be aggressive behaviors? Also I'm not sure if this cage would be comfortable..

Any other ideas? Especially looking for a trusted site for my brother to purchase all items..

Thanks again for all your feedback!

I would search craigslist for critter nation cages or fabricate your own. They need a fair amount of space. As for play time posts etc.... I would say check petco/petsmart as they will have most readily available (look in the ferret section), that is if you don't want to order online. Sugar gliders need companionship that being said its best if your brother is the companion, were talking maaany hours a day here not just a few minutes here and there. Get he/she a little pouch your brother can carry he she in during daily activities that will help with bonding. Anyone else please chime in here as I haven't kept these guys in years. Ps try dr foster and smith I've ordered from them with no problems

Ok thanks today I was took her out (this is her third day with us). She defintly has sharp claws..however that is not too much of a concern as we will be updating her cage with eighter a sand perch or a wheel with sand inserts. Hopefully thru hours of "rehab" she will settle down as she is very active and hard to control when out of cage. Also I say "rehab" in know disrespect to the glider but to the treatment she must of been thru.

Thanks for your input

Keep in mind she will bond with only one person primarily so if you spend most of the time with her she may end up being yours. Without you she may become very depressed which in turn can cause negative behavior, starving and other health issues.
