i went to top off my tank where the water had evaporated and used my usual method. empty tea jug. it was in the sink ao i assumed it wasn't being used. turns out, sugar had settled in the bottom of the jug where it didn't dissolve into the tea and i didn't know because it just looked like the bottom of the jug. i rinsed it out really good as usual, and swished it around really good, then filled it up and emptied it into my tank twice. i noticed the sugar sliding into the tank when it was WAAAAY to late. i did a 50% water change and waited. the water is extremely milky and every thing is covered in a terrible white slime. the fish are completely fine and don't even seem to notice. i did another water change and tomorrow i am going to clean thehell out of my tank. any one had this hapen to them before? how can i make sure it will not affect my fish and that it will clean up okay?

keep some prime close by and do your best with extra WC and cleaning up the mess

I've made some goofy mistakes but never this particular one...

I would do as large of a water change as possible and hope for the best... keep a close eye on them and if they act odd do another huge water change...

Let it be a lesson, but don't be to hard on yourself. The lesson is we should have dedicated fish equipment. I have 3 1 gal pitchers that are used for nothing but fish stuff and are stored with fish only stuff. They are shaped a bit different from teh kitchen pitchers...

i felt like such an idiot. luckily if anything goes south all i ave are 6 cories and a snapping turtle inthere right now. the snapper looks really goofy with a thick coat of white stuff all over him

so its just sugar in the tank?

you will be fine
some reefers does it as a carbon source to lower nitrates(dont expect it to do that for you)

all that will probably happen is a bacterial bloom(probably the slime).
maybe some diabetic fits.. joking your fish should be fine.
