i have a tank set up and would like to keep just one large , or fast growing fish , size must not exceed 2 and a half foot , as this is going to be my size limit for this side of the room ,,
i was thinking oscar or arowana , ??

but am open to suggestions before i buy ,, the fish must be known for having a bit of personality too,,and hand feeding would be good also,

look forward to suggestions on this that i may google ,for info ,

depending on the arowana it will outgrow 2.5'
oscars are nice, but not really show fish.
look into jaguars, doviis, maybe some arowana like jardini, leichardti, or asian

I agree with Onion01

Silver Arowanas will get larger than 2.5 feet but after reaching 20 inches they slow down to about a inch a year. Black Arowanas have slower growth rate and stay skinnier than silvers. Jardinis get about 2 feet but might need even more turning room for them because they are stiffer than silvers.

loads of info already ,do the arowana have personality like an oscar would?? and the jaguar sugestion , is this the cichlid or the catfish type ?

if u get the right oscar it can be a showy fish but depend on the size of the tank 1 oscar isnt gona be as much as a arowana or a dovii cichlid.................. i think he was talking about the jag cichlids. i have a soft spot for oscars cuz i kept 2 when i first started in a 90 gallon with a few other fish.....

i am not really looking for a show fish ,, most people i know would just look and think ''fish'' lol,
so if it feeds from hand and comes to the front of the tank because it recognises owner etc , then that would be a cool fish in my opinion ,

there is a 9inch black arowana in my lfs , but the £295 price tag is not very attractive , plus i hear its not eating anything at the moment ,, another lfs has a 'return' oscar in atm and thats about 10 inch ,

i know where there are two arowanas i could check out , not sure on the type , i think they are silver, they are at 15 inch and £120 each,

i understand that silvers get 'dropeye' i dont even mind this really , so long as it dont make a lot of extra work in careing ,

i will chew on any suggestions that apear in this topic and will decide next weekend i think ,
