Im liking the suggestions guys. Keep em coming. Masheers and tors are cool and Ive always loved the Bargarius sp!

Any more obscure suggestions?

I am with the trout idea. They are they most sensitive fish I know of. They are colorful and aggressive and a schooling fish. I have never heard of a single person ever keeping them for a long time. I have tried and failed. Just the stress from catching the fish usually kills them. If you can do this successfully you will be a master.
 
Nothing really "Rare" but I think you might like Grass Pickeral.
 
east african lungfish (protopterus amphibius), or any other lung. from what ive read the east african is most active and doesnt get gargantuan which could possibly enable you to keep other fish with it if the tank is big enough

i do like the tiger muskie suggestion though, they are beautiful fish
