Somewhere lost
I have been trying to be more active on this site. So this won't be any time soon. Because after I decide on the lizard/snake I am going to do as much research as possible to get the best care I can for it. I am going to building a new double cage for my ball python and corn snake. I was wondering what would be a good lizard for a 55. I have been more interested in reptiles then I have been in fish lately. I also would like a good snake for a 35"x21"x28" cage with wire front(didn't build it was given to me with the ball.) Also I have been interested in a blue tongued skink. But haven't been able to find the required tank size for them. I am looking for things that will live in the tank/cage for life.

A pair of Fire skinks are great and they will breed . Sandfish skinks, pair berber skinks, a few curlytails or swifts in a 55 natural set up look great .

There are many of the smaller arboreal geckoes which would look great and thrive in a 55 terrarium. Even lots of the smaller ground dwelling geckoes .

You have a huge selection of smaller lizards with a 55 .

You could look on kingsnake classified lizard and gecko to get an idea what you might like than research it because other than the bigger lizards you have a large selection.

I myself like the Flying geckoes and 55 for a male couple females with branches, plants would be great but geckoes might not be what you like.

Due to nose rubbing I don't know what snake would do well in the cage as you know some rub some do not but the size itself is good for smaller kings and milks such as Mex milk and Thayeri king and they will use branches to climb the height of cage .

I will say don't get a male if your ball/corn are female because a male who picks up their scent will rub his nose raw on screen.
My Ruthven male rubs when he smells the females but on substrate thus no big deal .

I just mated him with 2 females and still digs up substrate . If front of cage was screen he would tear himself up trying to get out.

the fire skinks would do great. don't do a snake, all the species sutible for that size tank would rub their noses raw. some of the plated lizards would do great, the sudan plated lizard would be great with that tank. i would do a plated lizard in the wire tank, or some small mammal. and the fire skinks in the 55. if you really want a snake put it in the 55. a california kingsnake or sub-tropical milksnake, nelsons or peublen, would be ok. a bearded dragon would do good in the 55 also. i personally keep 1 male bearded dragon in a 40 gallon breeder, and a california kingsnake in a 15 breeder, he is just a baby. a blue tongue skink will eventually need a 100+ gallon breeder. hope this helps

I can make adjustments to the cage. I was thinking a bearded dragon. I will have a empty 75 when I get the room for my boa. The ball is female. I believe the corn is a male. My ball is just under 5ft(i know the cage she is in is small but we had to build a house and she was at my grandparents without room. Also the people who had her before me was not taking care of her at all. She had no heat, food, clean water, or a clean cage. She wasn't even handled anymore) The corn was in a simular situation but fed once a month if lucky and now if you mess around in his tank you have to take him out first which is a fun job. If not he will try and bite you. Any idea's on how to break him from this?) and the corn just under 4ft I was thinking the new cage for them be 6'x3'x2'(2' tall for just one part) The tank is going to be a double. They will be on top of each other. I will probably for the cage with the wire change it to plexi glass then do vent type of thing on the 3 sides. If I do not get the bearded, i might go with the berber skink. Can you give me some info on the blue tongued. Everything I read always is different from another so it would be good to get info from people who have them. I am willing to build a custom cage for it.

The corn will take some time to trust humans again. Start with handling him for small periods of time, allow him to see your hand when your change the water dish etc... You may get bitten a few times but once it is less frightened of people it'll start to calm down, just don't expect it to happen quickly, abused animals are very often reluctant to trust humans again and it takes a long time to gain it.

Once he is out of the tank he is fine and hates it when I put him back. He enjoys trying to wrap me up(I call him Cuffs for a reason) also enjoying going threw pant loops which is fun getting him out of. He saw where he was going and went into them and once I got him out of one he went right back in it. He is rather trusting as long as you hold his tail. It's just the tank. I hold him a few hours when I get the chance normally 3 times a week at least. He also enjoys roaming on my bed. I believe it is just because the main time he got people in his tank was for food.

Just keep feeding him in a separate container and he'll soon realize that is when it gets food. As for the blue tongue skink, there not to bad to take care of as long as they are provided a proper diet, large tank, and deep bedding as the like to burrow.

Issue with the separate container when I work I don't stay at my house. My dad feeds my animals. He goes to change the water and thinks the corns hungry so he feeds the corn and the ball in their cages. As many times as I have explained to him about why he does that he don't listen. As for the skink. A 6'x5'x4' work? Then the bedding 1.5' deep?
