suggested plants

I was hoping you guys could please suggest some plants for a 55 gallon with the possible stock list of:1-2 leopard ctenpoma
1 yellow zigzag eel
1 polypterus sengealus
2 ropefish

Oh and I also had an idea I thought I'd run past you. Do you think it would be possible to have 1 half of the tank Seachem Flourite Plant Substrate with the plants, and the other half black or white sand? What are your opinions all are appreciated?

I just use black sand and my cryptocoryne plants are growing well. You need to make sure the plants are firmly established as you have an eel that might uproot them as it burrows. Vallisnerias, crypts, Java moss, Java ferns, anubias and Amazon swords work quite well.

I opted for 2 bags of flourite black sand and a bag of plain black sand

I have 3 Amazon Swords planted, and the bulbs of aponogeton, waterlily, and onion plants.
