i currently have a cascade 1500 which is doing a good job. i know i'll need more mech filtration in the future as my fish grow. I was planning on getting an FX5 but i dont have the room for it under or beside the tank. I see there is a big jump from canister filters that are good for up to 150-200g then there is a big jump to the FX5 at 400g. my filter is supposed to be good for 200g but i doubt it can handle my packed 150. is there a good single canister filter that can come close to the FX5? the Fx5 is just 4" too wide to fit unter my tank. Adding a second canister filter is not an option. oh, and i have 2 penguin 350s on the back if that makes a differance.

plenty of great big eheim's. more expensive but also know for better biological filtration.

i'd probably do a 2080 eheim

What do you have under your tank? Do you have a wet/dry?

I just hooked up an XP3 (already have a wet/dry) on my 120 gallon and it seems to be doing a great job, my water has never been "clearer" and it is quiet. Of course, anything is quiet with the two overflows draining like waterfalls constantly. My bro-in-law has two XP4's hooked up and they work great as well. I would have probably bought an Eheim filter, but wouldn't pay the $$$ for one. I price matched the XP3 at Petsmart and got it for a $106.

Speaking of my brother in law, he is looking into buying a "NU CLEAR" filter for his 300 plus gallon tank. They are powerful and efficient, but they do cost a lot. You can view them on the following url:

ive still been scratching my head trying to figure out how to get an FX5 under my tank and i noticed on a picture that there is a box on the back of the filter that looks like some kind of docking station or something. the discription says that the FX5 is 17" tall and 16" diameter. does the 16" refer to the cylindrical part of of the FX5 or does that include the box thingy on the back? if so, exactly how wide would the door of my tank stad have to be to get the filter out? the door on my tak stand is 14.5" wide. I may be able to widen it 1" before the hole would be bigger than the door. if i can squeez the FX5 through a 15.5" hole, i can get it. Also, what is the box thing i saw in the picture?
