Hi, I have a spare 55 gallon that I would like to set up SW. I just can't spend too much on it. I was thinking of clown fish, an anemone, & maybe a starfish or 2. I am experienced with FW but I have never had a SW tank before. About how much should I expect to spend to get a 55 sw going? I don't need anything elaborate. Thanks folks!

without an anemone maybe like 5-600? depending how much things are where you live

with probably more like 8-900 because of the lighting and added filtration

a *BASIC* setup would be pretty much exactly the same as a 55 FW, but i'd get a bigger/better filter. with about 50 or so pound, each, of live rock and aragonite sand.
once the tank is cycled, you can start adding fish
some cheap fish include:
damsels, clowns, most blennies, most gobies, firefish, most cardinalfish, and grammas
all of which are hardy and that i would recommend to a beginner

I am going to add on top of what the person above me stated. You will need to wait at least 6 months for anemone. They require very stable params. And your lighting will need to be at least 4 to 5 watts per gallon.
