I wanna try my hand at DIY food for my Butti. I've tried the search function but the threads were either years old or not enough info.
Here's the ingredient list I was thinking, tell me what or if I should add or subtract.
proteins
Market shrimp
Zoo med's sun dried red shrimp
Vegetable matter
blanched de-shelled peas
blanched carrots
blanched spinach
blanched green beans
blanched lima beans
blanched broccoli
Cobalt aquatics spirulina pellets
Id puree all the ingredients and mix it with Agar Agar gelatin and cut into sized pieces.
Before I do this, please give me your opinions and advice. Thanks in advance

Have you watched the YouTube videos on diy fish food, there's a bunch, and there pretty good.
thanks for replying. Ive checked out a few videos. I was hoping to get some direct feedback with terrestrial plant matter in fish food, as the subject seems to vary with opinions.

Depending on what fish you have will depend on how much terrestrial veg you want, but a general rule of thumb is for carnivorous fish it's 3 parts animal protein 1 part plant, for omnivores it's 2 to 2 and for veggies its 3 to 1. But it's really up to you. The veg you've got is good but you could add some sea weed, it's a common ingredient in good quality fish foods. Also you can make pellets as well as gel good, I can't remember the recipe but it's similar to the gel one, but with flour. Also you may have issues at first when feeding you fish your pellets, but IMO homemade food us the best to do.

The fish I have is a single Buttikoferi (omnivorous). I recently read in a thread here that terrestrial veggies weren't good for fish, there was an article link attached to the comment but it wouldn't open in my browser. Prior to reading that I have tried a few blanched veggies and my fish loves them. He'll take pellets as well but theyre really messy. The Agar Agar gelatin is made from red algae but I don't know what/if nutrients are lost during processing so I could add some seaweed in there but I don't wanna prepare this until I find out about the terrestrial veggies.

I'm no expert, but an issue with terrestrial veg may be the high carbohydrates, as fish are not good at processing them. Another thing is that terrestrial veg aren't a staple in the fishes diet in the wild, however alot of the stuff in pellets isn't found in there natural habitat. I'm very interested in the article about terrestrial veg, maybe someone else can chime in

that's a lot of shrimp. have you researched thiaminase?
spinach has oxalic acid in it. not sure of its affect on fish, but in humans it inhibits the body's absorption of calcium, you might want to look into it.
