Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I've spent a lot of time lurking and this is a great site! In terms of experience, I've been keeping SW and FW tanks for at least 15years. I've done the whole reef think, I bred dwarf seahorses for a while, and most recently I had a 90gallon FW planted tank.

So, for the first time since I was probably 10 years old, I find myself with no aquariums :( But, I plan on remedying this soon. Due to time constraints and space, the biggest size I want to go is a 29gal.

I'm most comfortable with soft water/acidic tanks - my plan for this was tons of wood, tons of floating plants (probably water sprite) as a means of nutrient export - had good luck with this tech before, T5 lighting, and a some standard filters.

So, what I'm looking for is a predator that won't outgrow this tank (at least not for a few years) but can be kept as part of a group (species tank with 2 or 3 fish). The idea is that the tank is actually shaded by all the floating plants and is filled with wood and rocks. I'm looking for an aggressive predator - something eye catching, even to non-aquarium people. I'm not adverse to something expensive, rare, challenging, but by the same token, I don't mind keeping common species and just getting them super healthy. The main thing I'm looking for a is a the "wow" factor from both 1.) non fish people 2.) some of my "salt water snob" friends

Thanks so much for any feedback!!!!

Any thoughts?

exodons, super active, small, colorful, and vicious as hell

wow, great suggestion.

How many would you keep in a 29gallon (trying to balance having enough room for them with having enough fish to spread out the aggression)?

move your question to the other characins forum, my lfs has a 20 long show tank with 6 or 7 that is mesmerizing to watch feed, ive never kept them so i dont want feed you with false info

I say 10-12 exodons would be great for a 29gal. Plant it too

Thanks everyone, found some great threads on here about bucktooths, I'll update this threads with pics once the whole things comes together in the few weeks.

id say a dozen exodons would be good
