Before i say anything else im just gonna ask for people not to disregard this as just another annoying mini tank stocking list question. Unfortunately for me, i have a big impulse buying problem... So if i dont know what im getting i may walk out of the store for something i shouldnt have...
I just got rid of mu CL and have some room in the tank.
Its a 38gal (3'x1' footprint, 20" tall), with an ac110 filter.
The fish are: 4 red and blue columbian
tetras, 1 swordtail, 1 ruby shark, 1 whiptail cat, 1 angelfish, 1 BN plec, and 1 clown plec.
Im looking for either a group of 3 cheap loaches of some sort but i dont know what sp., or one medium sized (like 8") fish any ideas?

Before you add a new species, how about getting some companions for your tetras? They will be healthier and more active if they are in a fair-sized school. Your ruby shark will get a good 6" or so long, so I think he will fulfill your needs for a mid-sized fish. As far as good smallish fish for the bottom, any of the cories would work well, or perhaps kuhli loaches. These fish also like to be in groups, so get 4-5 of the same species.

I would definitely fill out your tetra school first. Schooling fish are so much more enjoyable when kept in larger numbers. I have a 110 with schools of tetras, and they're really fun to watch. Also, I agree that corys would fill out the bottom of your tank quite nicely, and there is a large variety to choose from. They also frequently visit mid-level and top-level areas of the tank, if they're kept correctly, so they are not only a bottom-dweller.

Ok, so, ive already got the midsize fish. Now i just need the rest of the school (which will be hard to get because i can almost never find those tetras anymore), and the group of small bottom dwellers like loaches or cories. So far ive been thinking of either
5 kuhlii loaches
3 Botia striata (zebra loaches/crossband loaches)
or 4-5 cories.
