I currently have a 180g aquarium housing an oscar (10") x1, blood parrot x6 (2-7"), and a green severum x1 (7"). I will be upgrading to a 300-360g within the next 6 months (once I've had a chance to move into and settle down in the new house).

What do you think would be some good additions to the tank? I would prefer to stick to South and maybe Central American cichlids, maybe add a catfish as long as it wouldn't pose too much risk to the blood parrots (they're my mother's fish and she would kill me if anything happened to them).

I also have an 11" red devil hanging out by himself in a 75g. He's certainly not going into the "community" tank, but how would you suggest possibly introducing a mate to him?

I would look into more severums for sure. They're such personable and beautiful fish. You could also explore the idea of aequidens rivulatus, maybe a JD, and some fish from the thoricthys group or more peaceful archocentrus species.

I forgot to add this! I do have an aequidens rivulatus in a 55g to himself back at my campus apartment. You don't think he'd beat up on the parrots? A friend of mine also has a green terror and he's vicious.

I'll definitely consider the JD... despite people's frequent reports of them being very aggressive, I've had several in the past that never bothered the parrots or even angelfish that they were kept with.

ya another severum would be nice, or a jack dempsey,or a green terror

How about a red severum? Could try a female red terror, green terror, oscars are big, but mine would hid in the corner against some CA cichlids, like red devil and jag. I would stick with the peace and go with a terror or severum, maybe a salvini they are little but they are tough, you want fish that will stick up for themselves, but not bring horror when they grow up. imo

if u are upgrading soon to that 300g i don't see y u couldn't add another oscar or two, you have quite a bit of room to work with.

Some Geophagus or Chocolate Cichlid. A JD should be okay in that size tank. The ones that I have had seem to be aggrssive when younger and mellow as they get older, but that's just my experience. Clown loaches, maybe a columbian shark. I thought maybe a Hoplarchus psittacus, but they need very specific water requirements (black water). Nothing too aggressive if you want to stick with what you have.

You mentioned sticking with mostly SA's. Why not try something from the Vieja genus. That whole genus is beautiful in my opinion and with that much room you could pick more than one if you like.

I never thought to look into the viejas. If only I could find somewhere around here (Fayetteville, NC) that sellsVieja synspilum. I highly doubt Petsmart carries them... the only other place I could think of would be a place called Aquarama, but I wouldn't dare buy from them (google them!) Some chocolates might be nice, but again, I don't think the lfs around here sell them :(

Does anyone know of a good shop near Fayetteville, NC or a website that sells them (esp. the quetzal cichlid!)
