So I have descided to do a EcoPlus 1267 GPH Submersible Water Pump for my Wet/Dry and was wondering if 1200gph(Gallons Per Hour) is too much? This is my first Wet/Dry and want a nice steady flow. Enough to keep a good turnover, yet not to much that the filter doesn't get enough time to do a good job of breaking down waste in the water. The Wet dry will be for a 140g acrylic.

once the water hits the wet/dry section of the filter it is gravity fed so the amount of time the water spends it the actual wet/dry section is designated by how high that section is not by pump speed

Two things to consider...

How much will the pump bring once you calculate head loss?

and

Nitrification rates increase with increased water flow so the effect on the mech filtering component will probably be more important.
