Hey everybody,

I'm almost done cycling a 150 gallon, and I'm looking to buy from Jeff Rapps. I was just going to get about 6 juv. wild Oscars from him and hopefully get a pair, but I'm not so sure its what I want anymore. Considering what he has on his current stocklist, what would be a nice group to get, where maybe I could eventually get a pair of something. I'm really interested in getting my fish to breed someday. Any suggestions with pics would totally rock :headbang2 .

Can't wait to see my little buddies in there :woot:

I assume you want to keep it SA...so I have made up a pretty good list that should work out for yaz! :D

4 - Heros sp. rotkeil 2-2.5"
4 - Acarichthys heckeli 3.5-4”
4 - Caquetaia spectablie 1.5-2”
6 - Geophagus abalios 1.5-2”

That should give you a nice and unique tank. He doesn't have much for pike cichlids right now, most are too big...and grow faster than most of the fish I have in the list. Everything should be alright in that list though. Once they get larger though you could add more fish, like pbass, Crenicichla, Hypselecara and so on. Anyway...cheers!

Now, the 150 I have is pretty much where I want to keep it at, so I want to know if I'll have to upgrade at all when these get bigger

Now, I'm sure that the Acarichthys heckeli's are nice looking fish, but at 20 dollars each and with four of them, that kind of puts me out of my price range, are there anyother south americans that are just as nice and would fit into my plans of an attractive smaller cichlid community type tank.

By the way, Rapps has some incredible pictures of the heros sp. rotkeil "sevs", I think I'm definetely gonna go with 4 or so of those.

Anyother suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You know he has a 50 dollar minimum order on fish. I only wanted 1 festae but got 3 redhooks to boost me over the minimum.

Yes, I'm aware of the minimum he has. Shipping to Rhode Island he told me himself is $16. I've read on here where people pay bundles just for shipping.

I really like the suggestions on the Heros sp. rokeil and the geophagus abalios.

He also has emerald green acara's which look really nice.

So I was wondering if 4 of those green acara's and an Oscar would go nicely with the others in a 150.

Thanks

I would hold off on the Oscar...since they are already larger than most of the cichlid you are gonna buy. Oscars have an incredible growth rate...seriously puts you in a pickle if you have slower growing cichlids. All of those fish I mentioned will be awesome in a 150 for life, you will have to get rid of some of them though once they pair up though. Hmm..other suggestions. You gonna go with the Caquetia spectabile? AWESOME fish! Awesome price! Not seen very often! you should snatch them up! Especially if shippin is $16.00...lol! Its $75.00....*grumbles*...if it was lower i would personally get some...but I JUST got an order of pbass from him...so i'm out for a bit...acceptin donations to help my cause though
:P

I really want to thank you peanut_Power. I was really happy with some of the suggestions you gave me and they are all really great looking fish.

No prob. bro...I'm sure anyone else here woulda done the same. You come to any conclusions on what u are gonna get? There were some other fish i was gonna suggest on there...but they are above ur price range, and are a bit larger than the others so it would be hard mixing them safely. ALTHOUGH, may I suggest checking www.anthonystropicalfish.com He has some pike cichlids right now that are absolutley awesome! No idea how big they are...probably still too big...but if they are below 3" they are JUST the right size for you. Crenicichla acurotostisis or sumptin like that...i screw up on the spellin each time...lol....
