i was at petsmart picking up some crickets for my daughter's rainbow tiger bearded dragon, and i stopped and looked at the cichlids they had .. i saw a 2.5" jag with gill curl and it's tail was frayed bad,and missing in some spots.. i bought him for 3.99 (i felt bad for him). it was and is very active. gill curl is still there, and kind of looks like the soft tissue part flipped over onto his gill plate ,and its tail is trying to look normal.. i take excellent care of my tank 2 water changes a week ,and i run 4 rena xp4"s on it . the tank is a 125 gal there is 2 jags and a cuban in it.. is there any chance the gills curl with go away ,and will the tail fill in and look normal? see pics. again he is super active, and eats like a pig

The curled gill is most likely a genetic defect and will always be there, the tail will heal.

the soft tissue just flipped like it is a week ago .. it was just a curl when i got him 3 or 4 weeks a go.. if it does not get any better will he live a normal fish life?

Sure I don't see why not.

ok i am a sucker for trying to give fish that have issues happy lives . i am sure he would have been removed from the tank eventually, and tossed in the garbage

Great save, and the tail will heal dont no about the gills though.

he is a character.. i used to have 10" redbelly piranhas in the tank with my cichlids everyone hid .. the piranhas are gone, and the cichlids true personalities are coming out.. i love the fact they come to the front when i sit in front of the tank and chill. it is like i am thier show.. cichlids are great fish.. i think i will sell of my 12,-13" black rhom, and do another tank of cichlids :)
