As you can see, my 125g is pretty bare and in need of some aquascaping. I need some help on deciding how to do this. I would like to get a nice piece of driftwood and add some live plants, such as java fern, java moss, and val. I have cleaned a good bit of petrified wood and can attach the plants to that randomly around the tank. I really don't know if I like the background on my tank. I was thinking about going with a black background. Please give me some advice on how to help this tank look more natural and more appealing to the eye.

Yes, I have the 10" tiger oscar, 2 small bala sharks, a small JD, 2 sevs, a small convict, a pictus cat, and pleco in the tank right now.

The black background will make it look better...it helped make a difference in how my tank looked. I would recommend a piece or two of driftwood. Make sure to have some decor that is vertical oriented also. Main thing is to try moving things around a bunch and be creative! Have fun :)

Thanks, I might just have to take a little walk down the creek to see about some good driftwood. I would like a piece or two that has some nice height as well as length to it. Although some of the pieces of petrified wood are fairly large, I won't be able to get the vertical arrangement with them.

with all that driftwood, I would get some java or peacock or flame moss and wrap some thread around it and in a couple of weeks the moss should attach to the pieces. will add lots of character! I myself would add amazon swords for the back and maybe some micro swords for the foreground

I like the amazon swords but didn't know if they would survive the cichlids. Lol I do plan on attaching some java fern and moss to the petrified wood pieces and placing them around the tank. I thought about getting the giant val so that would add some height to the plants in some areas. I know I'll have to keep that trimmed back though.

Yeah, I like picking out my own driftwood...saves some major $$$$$

When I mentioned the vertical aspect of your setup I just meant that you will need some vertical decor but not necessarily the driftwood.

The driftwood in my tank is more horizontal but some of the other stuff is more vertical.

I still want to rearrange my tank some more...I always see something I want to change :wall:

Nice set up. I had the tree stumps in mine also. I removed the taller one. I'm hoping to go with natural rocks and driftwood. I really like the way yours looks.

Just a heads up but whatever you do, you will have to make it very stable or that oscar is going to knock and move things...

Good Luck!
