At the foot of the cross
I just picked up a 300g with dual corner overflows. I also just picked up a 50g wet/dry sump to go along with it. What secondary filtration can I use side by side with the wet/dry sump? Dare I even say, Should I use an undergravel filter? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

depends on what you feel you need, mechanical or bio. For Bio, set up a fluidized sand filter. for mechanical, you could add a canister filled with foam blocks.

i would add a canister if possible...fx5 maybe?

whats your bioload gonna be like? fish stock?

undergravel? YUCK!!!:nilly:

Stay away from undergravel... bad bad bad. I'd say if you want mech Fx5, bio eheim 2080.

I would even throw a couple big sponge filters in the sump. Cheap and easy way to house bacteria and you can use them to establish new tanks.

An additional HOB or canister probably wouldnt hurt either.

Depends on whats going into the tank.If alot of rocks or live plants stay awy from ugf.If you dont mind vaccing the gravel weekly nothing wrong with ugf.
If you do a canister or hob take all the biomedia out to maximize flow cause your sump does the bio for you.
a stack of sponges on a powerhead if you can hide it or dont mind it.
maybe a vortex diatom filter to keep the tank crystal clear.

I'll triple-fifth the NO on the UGF. I had a lightly stocked 20 long with a UGF which I cleaned weekly, and still had a big nasty mess under the plates as time went on.

Got a AC70 on a 37gal now...I still vaccum the gravel during water changes, but its mostly just larger solid waste particles and uneaten food that doesn't make it into the filter.

I guess thats a negatory on the ugf.:thumbsdow Thanks for all the suggestions!
