So I here is what I have currently in the tank:

6 x 2 x 2 = 180 Gallon

7" Blue base cross back
2 x 7" Motoro Sting rays (w/c pair)
4 x clown loaches (about 4-6 inches")
7" Tigrinus Catfish
8" Indo Datnoid

It is a beginners planted tank with about 10 Amazon Swords (not sure if I am going to continue with these or not)

The problem is that the fish I have all are kinda the hide and go seek type.

Loaches - love to hide in the plants
Rays - bury themselves in the sand
BBXB - floats at the top mostly
Datnoid - hides inside a plastic rock cave
Tigrinus - is always humping the wall of the tank at the back near the water line

I have had peacock bass, and tinfoil barbs, I am looking for something neat, and out of the ordinary. I would like something that schools preferably so I can add some movement in the mid tank range.

I have though about tiger barbs (eventually would be too small and get eaten I assume), and silver dollars (kinda boring looking)

I'd like something colorful? Likes to move? I would like a mid level schooling pack. Perhaps I am asking too much? Any suggestions (with a picture to show me an example) would be greatly appreciated.

My tank sounds similar to yours only 8ft 2.5 2.5 250 gal, I just swapped my gravel for sand but now my stingrays hide all the time in the sand. I preferd them with the small pea gravel they could still cover them selfs but 90% they didn't hide now with the sand 90% of the time they do hide. I removed my hiding places & now I see my clown loach more. I had a full grown HUGE fat 2ft RTG arowana he would spend loads of time in the middle & the bottom of the tank as well as the top.
But my young 24K Arowana stays at the top of the tank.

Sorry my reply does not answer your question I will be intrested to see what people recommend . I would love to see pics of your tank with your plants so I could get some Ideas
