Suggestions on TV Stand Dimensions

I realize this has nothing to do with aquaria, but when it comes to building a stand to support weight, where better to ask than here?

Bought myself a new 50" Plasma TV and I'm not impressed with the current stand we have (it was a yard sale find). I want to build my own stand, but I'm not sure what dimensions to go with, at least in the W and D department. I need it to be "tip-proof". Height wise, I'm thinking between 24 and 30". I'm just not sure how to factor in the correct depth for the stability.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for the link kumdoalan. I've already taken that approach, and I've found too many differences between styles/manufacturers/etc. Thus, I wanted to get the opinion from people here.
