just looking to put a few live plants in my tank im using sand at the moment , any ideas of low light ..low maintnance but still nice to look at plants i can start with?

i have a geo and some spotted silver dollars comming...for this tank.

With low lighting I have had decent results with Amazon swords (Echinodorus amazonicus) and Banana plants (Nymphoides aquatica), but aside from low lighting it would have to be the right type of lighting.

I think the range is something like 5700k to 6500k, I use 6500k with decent results and you'll want to get a liquid fertilizer.

Java fern is also a easy lowlight plant.

Jamie, do you realize your geos and silver dollars can eat plants, right? I agree though hornworts, Java ferns and anubias would be your best bets.
