in the past few days my 4.5" GT has started to harrass my 9" female midas. flaring, head shaking, fins up, markings pronounced, etc.
they havent lip locked as yet but im wondering if my GT will eventually realise he is entering a one sided fight he cannot possibly win. all my midas wants to do is go about her business but he keeps hunting her down and starting fights. she does stand up for herself and gave him a hiding two days ago which split his tail and took a few scales off near his gill plate, generally nothing too serious.

any thoughts or suggestions?

after a few GT's this is my first one who appears to be turning into an ass. should i find him a good home before tubby realises she wont take no domestic abuse?

i think i know the answer but i want more opinions before i decide as he is a nice one.

I would seprate the two and give the midas sometime. In time the midas will beat up the GT'S butt. Or sale the GT off and fine a new fish!!!

I've never owned a GT, but I have owned Midas, mine would not take any abuse, I think you need to sell the GT before the Midas gives em a wake up call.

my male GT would always try to spawn with my red devil female.. so this could be a possibility why he is getting aggressive ...and losing his mind...lol

the fighting carried on and never let up. the GT kept starting on my midas even though she was just swimming around not bothering anyone. tubby gave him a hiding the other night, he lost some scales and she damaged hit tail quite badly. he was still trying to fight her btw.
he was still alive so she didnt have a proper go at him but it was only a matter of time before she had enough.
he even started to bite at the small bichirs and get quite aggressive with them, this was the last straw for me.

as a result of said straw, he is now a resident of the lfs down the road from me. im quite gutted because he was a handsome fish, with improving colouration since i started feeding NLS. if i had the room for a single specimen tank i would have kept him.

so he was just aggressive to all the tankmates.... thats different...and thats a shame.. yes he must be a stunner.. they usually are stunners with an attitude...

he is my first GT thats been an ass to tankmates. he wont be in the lfs long, he is too good looking for a life behind bars. he was about 5", more accurate out the tank, and was a heavy set fish.
why he felt the need to bite juvies bichirs who are less than 1cm thick and 4" long is beyond me, they posed absolutely no threat to him. the big bichir, 8-9", bit back though, after that he only went for the small bichirs.

at least i intevened in time so all parties are alive and well.

My GT was a real pain, he was keeping two Oscars more than twice his size pinned into the corner of my tank, the Oscar lip locked with him once and almost got the GT's entire head in his mouth. :nilly: The Oscar let him go and the GT didn't give up and even started taking scales off them before I had to rehome him.
