Suitable polypterus for Florida gar and 2 sens

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What type of polypterus would work with a florida gar and two sens? BTW,they are in a 5ft long 2ft high 1.5 wide tank with sand and fake plants.I use 3 different internal filters and the ph is neutral.
The two sens are at a same size of 9-10 inches and the gar is also at the same size. :newbie:
Oh,and hi,I'm a new member!

idk about that gar that'd be really pushing with the width

gars easily reach the 18" mark maybe not overnight, but it usually will happen in good environments. If you don't plan on upgrading IMO i wouldn't do it with the gar.

Not commenting on tank size but really any larger polys will work. Truthfully your sens are the limiting factor. They are prob maxed out whereas your gar is not. Look at ornate or endi. Just watch those sens

Ive got a 19" florida gar right now waiting to be rehomed because he has started to look at my ~9" sens as food. Tries to bite their heads but the sens are just too thick. I think this only started when he learned to accept frozen food and pellets. Happened to me like 3 times this year. Totally took off one of my sens pectoral fins. Will be putting him in a much larger pond with some turtles.

Tank size aside i agree with the posts above you'd want to watch the sens. Another option could be if you grow them out together then that'd give you your best chance of them all staying alive without any problems.

My sens and gar all grew up together. It wasnt til the gar got a good 16" before the first incident. And that was before he learned how to eat prepared food. Sens then were already around 7-8". IME, I dont think a sen regardless of size would do good with a florida gar. They were good for a couple of years tho.
