hey there, I've been trying to find a suitable prey item for my RBP's. I understand that it shouldn't make up a majority of their diet, only a small portion. I feed them frozen brine shrimp and frozen beef heart most of the time. goldfish and rosy red minnows have thiaminase, which is apparently detrimental to predatory fish. What is a good replacement for a feeder fish that I could breed easily?

RBP will pretty much anything, but stay away from goldfish, these are like junk food.

Also, they wont even bother with very small fish, I dont know if anyone has tried with gupies.

Convicts are a good option, they breed easily and grow a decent size.

ha, if you're still feeding them frozen cubes, then they'll eat even the smallest fish. That gent was a lil inaccurate on that info. Even my 7-8 inch red belly will eat white clouds that can't be any bigger then the size of their eyes.

i would just add cray onto jp's list, marble cray self clone and a breeding tank can just as easily be established as any of the fish listed

we like to recommend a variety. i think most of us are going with fish (whole or fillette) and pellets as the staple
