Would apistos be OK tankmates with my EBJD? I really like Triple Reds and would love to have a few. My JD seems pretty mellow and coexisted with guppies and guppy fry for a long time. This would be a planted tank so I could have some shelter for them.

heh i kinda wana know if ebjd would be ok with my arow sorry to use your post.. i've heared the blues are more passive than the normal ones.. so i would have to say yes.

Yeah that should be fine. They are a very passive fish and can be with most other fish. Ussually you have to worry about them being picked on vs them picking on someone. The aspitos would look good with the EBJD. Just keep an eye out if the aspitos spawn to make sure they don't pick on him.

EBJD have to be the slowest growing large cichlid out there hands down. You are lucky to get a 1/4" out of them per month. I would strongly advise to not keep them with a silver aro unless the EBJD is fully grown around 6"+.....If not the fast growing aro would make your beautiful dempsey a quick snack. If i were you i'd put an EBJD with smaller tropical fish like mentioned above until they grow to adult size but plan on waiting a year or 2 before keeping them with fish that grow fast...

My EBJD's are in with angels and rams and the tank is very chill...
I think some triple red apistos would work out great in there.
Just an FYI my tank is a planted 55...so if you give them some space all should be well.
Good Luck! - Also my EBJD's have really taken well to Omega 1 super color pellets....

Some acara's (Black Acara) and a female severum...start small, could also be good tankmates depending on how big a tank you'd like to have eventually. But if you like apisto's, they'd probably be a good mix as well.
