Hi. I have two IT's the largest being close to 9", but it's hard to see for sure. I keep these in a 100 gallon corner tank. Both of them are kinda hiding around for the major part of the day. It was suggested to me to introduce a shoal of other fish to sort of comfort them. I have been asking around what's available at a reasonable size and this resulted in the following species:

  • Puntis lateristriga (spanner bard) @ 3-4"
  • Puntius everetti (clown barb) @ 4"
  • Barbonymus Altus (red-tailed tinfoil barb) @ 4"
I am wondering which species you think would be most suitable, considering the size of the bigger IT. Or, if that I may be missing out on another appropriate species. Thanks.

I kept mine in low level brackish and thought scats were the perfect tankmate. One of the scats even followed him around and kind of hung by him. My dat was never too shy though. For some strange reason it took a dislike to one particular scat and killed it. Scats are greedy eaters and I think that helps.

if the dats and your tank are big enough my experience is you can keep them with most fish.. some dats are a bit grumpy and can give new tank mates a hard time..

Yeah I'm experiencing that right now where the big one is chasing the smaller one around only to tolerate him again a little while later. If I can keep them with any kind of fish I would place an order for the spanner barbs. My only concern then is the size at which they can be ordered. I'm afraid the 3" might be live food. How risky do you think this is?
