Hey I've never really thought about it but my fish have been getting sick latley not really sure why. All my water test come out good. Only thing out of place really is my nitrate is 20 to 30.
We have always had the smell of sulfur from are well water. Could this be the cause? I had a small out break of ich that won't go away tried to treat with quick cure. Now I'm trying salt, and
I've had three fish with fin rot. Two have died. I've been doing 50 percent water changes ever 3 days.

What kind of fish?

"One potential problem with using well water is that it frequently contains high concentrations of dissolved gases (which may be dangerous to fish). For example, well water is frequently supersaturated with CO2, which lowers the water's pH. Once the CO2 escapes, the pH will increase. Fish shouldn't be subjected to this temporary pH fluctuation. For safety, aerate well water thoroughly for several hours before adding it to your tank. "

we all know that sulfur is a very dangerous substance to deal with.

Hmm this isn't telling me much.... My ph has always stayed pretty stable. The tank it self has no oder of the sulfur. Just from the sink u can smell it alittle.

Sry. Its a pacu, clown knife, rtcxtsc, rtc, albino paroon. Pacu and knife don't seem affected by it at all. They eat like pigs and no sign of ich

What are the full parameters of the tank? Size of tank, PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, temp, WC schedule?

both are 55g grow out tanks. both are ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, temp 82 cause of the ich, and nitrate on one is 0 and the other was 20 i do 15 gallons every sunday on both sense the fin rot started ive been doing 50% wc every 3 days

I had that smell coming from my tank also the other day. Its the chemicals that you use.. Its it Amplus or osmthing like that (orange bottle)???

This is what you should do.. Do a 15% water change.. And add Prime.. Thats the best.. Dont use the other stuff.. Trust.. NExt day.. Will be better. Let me know

nah the tank doesnt have a smell at all. but i know we have sulfur in our well water here. and was curious if this could be a bad thing. i think since i started doing the salt. its getting better. i can tell a big change in both tanks tonight. all the fish ate great. rtc went on a feeding frenzy and ended up eating a plant bulb that was buried. i assume he will be fine. since ive heard of them eating worse lol
