My O has been at the bottom of his tank for the past couple of days. Today I went in and he was all the way on his side barely moving his gills. I tried to provoke him to see if he moved at all. He moved very slowly and only a couple of inches. Also he has refused to eat within the last two weeks. His breathing seems stressed and I am not sure what the problem is. I seem to have had nothing but problems with this guy. First he went blind, then no eating, now this. SO is it just that he is sulking or what? Anyone else had this problem before?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if pics would help but they can be available if need be.

He is in a 50g with an EHEIM 2215 and an Odyssea HOB rated around 50 gallons. The tank temp is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. His tankmates are 2 common plecos (one 6 1/2" the other 3") and a 1 1/2" Kenyi cichlid(only place I had for him since my convict kept picking on the O). I can't tell you the parameters of the tank(I don't have a test kit:irked:) except the pH which is right around 7.6.

Thanks for your help and reading in advance.

i would have to say that is a water quality issue. With the size of the fish in that tank and the quantity, i would be doing a minimum of 50% twice weekly. Also, the O will need a bigger tank and the plecos likely will as well. I would start doing daily 10-20% water changes until he perks up then keep a regimine of 2x weekly 50%.

Ok thanks for your help. But by the looks of it I don't think he'll make it much longer. :( A bigger tank is hopefully on the way.

I once had an Oscar that would burry himself in the substrate. Def check your water but IMO thats not the issue. Oscars have their own personalities. With the info you have provided, Id say he is just being a big baby. (Sulking)

I don't know what the issue was but apparently there was definitly something wrong because he went as my family and I were eating dinner.

sorry for your loss

Yes, mine has done that alot too. However, his gill function was never affected and he was not in a smaller tank with two other larger fish getting every other week water changes.
