why do oscars sulk. what could be the reason my oscar is sulking he sits at the bottom of the tank and is not active he still eats just not as excited. All the other fish are fine and, params are fine. the only change recently was i took out the canister in the canister filter with the charcoal, because i was treating for ick. but now it is back in. what is his problem. lol just wanted to know what the problem is and how i could fix it.

Oscars are just funny creatures... is the lighting too bright? how often do you do water changes?

By saying your water params are "fine" i take it the ammonia and nitrite are 0 ?

yes ammonia and nitrite are zero. the lights have been this way for the past month or so that I've had him. he now refused the food and he is breathing heavily. also, his tail sometimes twitches vertically, up and down.

there could be a low level of oxygen in your tank

my oscar was miserable in his smaller tank. i got him a bigger one, added some dithers for him to play with and some plants and ornaments to push around and he seemed fine. i think if you understand the nature of the fish they are easy to please
