Recently purchased 3 flowerhorns 2 inches in size, maybe about 2 weeks ago and already had to seperate all 3. They all looked dull in color, so I did some research and bought some Sumo Red food from lfs. Within 3 days color changed dramatically, well worth the money i spent. Sorry didnt take any pics yet. Will try post pics by this weekend.

Also one of my horns is a very dark black/purpleish color, and its belly looks huge, even before feeding. Anyone have suggestions?

stop the feeding on the fish with the big stomach and make sure your water is really clean. It does not sound good.

well the horn with the big belly used to be the usual color, it turned dark purple after seperation. Had the horns for about 2 weeks and had been feeding them the sumo for 1 week. I already tried a salt bath, after 12 mins, i put the fish back into the tank, color looked like it was turning back to normal, within a few minutes changed back to dark purple. It's weird because the fish still eats and poops. Not sure what to do.

btw i just changed water this past weekend. I'll try get some pics this weekend.

so you separated them 2 weeks ago? and started feeding them the sumo red a week ago?

sometimes the bigger one will be dominate and therefore will show the best colors. however if the other one is always barred and dark colored, then it is either stressed, or preparing to spawn.

i dunno y you give them salt bath? i have never done this with any of my fish, and i've been keeping cichlids for over 20years.

what i suggest is for you to find a camera, and snap some photos of these flowerhorns. Post them in this thread of yours. that way we tell you if the barred one is female or not. pics would be good anyways for us to determine what they are and what the sexes are on both.

yes i will try to post pics tonight. These fish are only about 2.5-3 inches in length and thats with tail. Dont see how they can be mature enough to be spawning.
