I'm thinking of how to make my w/d, will probably have a plastic tub under both of my overflows, with mesh on top of balls etc. Draining into one tub-tank containing heaters and pump.
Question is that if water level is higher than bio balls and possibly covering all, would a airstone be helpfull? Read it on another post.
I know that if waters that high it may overfill sump in a power failure, it may just be slow.
Reason being tubs will need to be close to overflow exits, and a drip plate may cause abit of spash.
Could I put filter mesh above drip plate to absorb splashs?
Any help appreciated as I'm still thinking about it.
Never had one before. And water will probably run staight through with no resistance.
:duh:

That's the best place to have an air stone, you want the bacteria to have as much oxygen as it can get. Put one under the bio-material even if only 1/3 of it is covered with water. It will increase the efficiency of the filter.

Make sure you have a pre-filter (filter floss,poly-fil, filter sock) before the bio-material (material needs to be kept clean).
