I'm changing up the filtration in my 220 due to the arrival of my new Asian Arowana. I first planned a sump with a mag 18, but have since changed my mind because I'm only 15, and my parents aren't that confident with my DIY skills. I want/need atleast 1200-1500GPH. The only problem is that my stand is oddly shaped, and the opening is 36"x15" to get filters in and out. So, essentially I'm looking for an alternative to a sump, but still a quality filter(s).

Thanks, -Justin

Maybe a dump? Have the sump on top and the pump inside the display tank. I never made one but seems to be a lot less complicated for DIY.

You can get some good quality powerful canisters that will do the job good luck

The tank has a canopy, and only has 18" of clearance without it on.

Try a closed loop system, ocean clear or nu clear canister filters, I use it on my 180. I use ocean clear filters, a 317, to a 340, to a bead filter and I love it.
