sump and malysian trumpet snails???

i have sand substrate and im worried bout the anaerobic bacteria producing toxins. im aware that mts would be perfect to remedy this, and all around improve my tank because bichirs and gar are messy eaters and the snails would eat the scraps and the algea i have. idk if that out ways the risk of the mts screwing with my sump and power head. granted, a snail would have to pass through a sponge, drip plate, scrubies and bio media, then another sponge to reach the pump but its not impposible. im also worried bout the snails getting sucked up into my power head and breaking the impeler. any feed back?? personal experience would be great
