you would need 2 barbed fittings to put your hose on and then screw those into the ball valve..couple hose clamps too...can get everything at any local home improvement store (lowes, home depot, menards) its fun playin in the plumbing aisle, kinda like legos for adults lol

A check valve and ball valve are not the same thing. A check valve allows water to flow in one direction only. Mostly used to prevent siphoning after the return pump shuts off. A ball valve is a manual valve that lets you control the flow through the valve. You can have it completly open, patially open, or completely closed. You can find 1" pvc check valves at home depot, lowes, menards, etc. If you are using vinyl tubing you need to get a barb adapter to go from vinyl tubing to pvc. Just got done plumbing my 240 gallon so I just went through this.

If your planning a good sized plumbing job, plan it out on paper and triple check everything so you dont forget anything, multiple trips to the store are a pain after about 4 or 5

I'm a novice at home depot and the one I go its extremely unhelpful. I spend an hour there and was overwhelmed by the amount of items. I ask for help and the associates end up asking me , then ask a fellow customer for help? I was shock... nevertheless I plan on using a mag 9.5 with 1'' vinyl hose to pump back to my 175gallon, I'm looking for a ball valve to throttle it, if you can provide me a link that links me to the ball valve I will highly appreciated. I will update pics as I go as well.

here is a pcv ball valve. there is a ball in side that is attached to the handle with a hole drilled through it. when open it flows just like the pipe. when closed, the ball rotates to partially or completely close down the flow of water.

this is a type of pvc to barbed fitting. sometimes a short length of pipe will need to be glued between the valve and the fitting, but you should be able to find some direct fits. then the flexable tubing just goes over the barbed end.

hope this helps a bit.
