In a dream
On my 225 i have a 60 gallon sump and getting 2 fluval 405's soon (would like to get an FX5 but it dont have any room). My question is what should i fill the 405s with? Should i just use polishing pads? What else?

Also for those of you that run both a sump and a canister, what do you have your canister stocked with? Thanks in advance.

3x FX5's filled with only Ceramic Rings. The Fluval Sponge pads take care of all the gunk very well for mech.
1x bag of purigen in each fx5 rotating on a monthly basis (1 out for recharge 2 in play)

+2

I have two tanks that are filtered with both sumps and canisters. The canisters are strictly mechanical filtration. When its time to clean them, I dump the sponges and and stuff out of them and into the clothes washer on "rinse and spin" then I put them back in.

I do also have purigen and a few bags of ceramic rings in them that are NOT run through the washer, but those are just bonus, the function of the canisters are mechanical filtration. There are 3 canisters in question here: an FX5, an XP 3 and an Eheim Pro II.
