I've been really needing a larger tank for QUITE some time now, so I've been trying to explore all of my options. Would it be possible to convert an acrylic sump into a tank? Like the ones that glasscages has? I'll post a picture for reference. I'm just wondering if there was a way to remove the siliconed sections from the tank or if they are permanently adhered to the tank? It would be really nice to get a sump for really cheap and turn it back into a tank...haha. Anywho, lemme know if its possible, and if so, how.

Picture is of one of the sump displays from Glasscages.com

Someone here did it not too long ago. You just have to be careful when taking a razor blade to the acrylic.

If everything is glass not a problem with razor blade. If tank and baffles are acrylic damn near impossible as the 2 acrylics are fused together. If glass tank and acrylic baffles use razor blade. If acrylic tank glass baffles use razor with caution as acrylic can be damaged easily. I think that covers all the basis.;)

I have another source aside from Glasscages...just using their tank as an example. I guess only way to figure out if it can be done is to get one. I probably should get a hand help router and a sander....haha. Might be able to get it lower that way, them maybe put a whole bunch of gravel/sand to cover up what i can't get.

you'll have to post your results. One thing I keep thinking about is why people use aquariums for w/d. I guess if you have one laying around, that's one thing, but when a rubbermaid container of the same volume costs 1/4 that of an aquarium, why ruin a perfectly good aquarium?

I've also thought if you have to make a w/d see through, why not use a reptile tank. Less $$ and since it's not holding full water, it should be fine since it's typically thinner glass. I'd also beware that if you buy a w/d like that, that it isn't a reptile tank. While you might get the w/d pieces out, it also might be too week to hold full water and withstand a "bump".
