Ok So im thinking of drilling out the bottom of my 180. How big of a tank should i use for the sump ? A 55 gallon ?

I will be using this pump http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...PRD~0590412P/Pond+Pump+1250+GPH.jsp?locale=en

going with this design except larger.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZW2UVRlfMM&feature=related

and quick tips ? I figured I can hard plumb the intank into the sump and use some bendable tubing for the tank return. Any Tips ? I figure I can make a sweet sump for under 300 this is just as good or better then any canister filters out there.

Go as big as you can. Lol. I have a 40 breeder under my 90 gallon. As far as how to plumb it, do some research on the herbie overflow. This is how I have mine set up and it is dead silent.

Before you drill your tank. I think I heard somewhere that the bottom glass on a big tank is usually tempered. If you were to drill you should drill the back panel.

Go as big of a sump as your stand will allow. Small or big sump your still going to use the same pump for return. Make sure there is enough room on the top of the sump and bottom of the stand so you can service it easily. That is why my stands are atleast 30" tall. My next one is going to be 36" tall. Good luck.

Ive looked for the temperd glass sticker and cant find it. I allways thought that the bottoms of tanks WERE NOT temperd. I plant on turning a 75 gallon into a sump. For the return how would you recomend I do it ? Like a canister and have flex tubing or hard plumb it ?

I personally use flex clear tubing. If you ever decide to move your sump or where the return is placed you can just move it if you have clear flexable tubing. plus you can see if water is siphoning back into your tank. One piece no joints to glue means less chances of leaks.

I use a hose clamp around the tubing where it connects to the pump and return nozzle.
