I am intrigued by the notion of keeping a "sump crew".
I have a 350 gal Ray tank that is filtered by a 150 gal sump. The sump contains everthing commonly found in a sump plus a flourescent fixture on a timer used for the plants growing in the sump. This added light plus the nutrients in the sump (naturally) have led to extra growths of algae and detritus accumulating.

What species of shrimp (FW) would you recommend for the sump to act as a clean-up crew?

How about crayfish?

Dithers?

Respectfully, FireMedic.

*I do not/am not/will not entertain any snails*

What kind of pump are you running. It seems to me that the shrimp would get sucked up.

Ghost shrimp. I can find em between .25 and .10 cents.

so dont have to worry much if they die.

I raise dwarf crays in my sumps. Their young aren't free-swimming so they don't muck up the final stripper pads before the pump. They're also FW whereas ghost shrimp available in my area are brackish. And, the juvie crays make fine snacks for my bottom dwellers. I also use larger pond filters with multi-layered stripper pads in them on my turtle tanks. These filters hold large cultures of gammarus shrimp that I can harvest to feed to my smaller fish.

I have a variety of snails in my sump and they need no entertaining the seem to amuse themselves just fine:grinno:

The gammarus shrimp!Ill have to see if I can get some I use the stripper pads too Thanks Oddball!
